So it’s that time of year again - with Christmas and all that it entails: family visits, relentless parties, over-eating/drinking, kids running around high on sugar and anticipation…no wonder alcohol consumption shoots up by 40% in Britain this month!
So here are a few tips to help make the next few weeks go more smoothly:
- Drink! And I’m not talking booze here – 2 L of still water, sipped through the day, with a squeeze of lemon here and there to help your liver. Hot drinks can be dehydrating, so limit to 2 a day.
- Give your body a break once in a while by laying off the drink at least one day per week – and ‘sweat it out’ with a brisk walk/run/swim, especially after a heavy night.
- Recovery smoothie – great boost anytime of day. Blend: almond/coconut milk to taste + 1 handful of kale/spinach + ½ lemon juice + 1 tbsp chia seeds + 1 banana + 1 tsp raw honey + 1 handful of soaked almonds + 1 tsp goji berries. Delicious and you’ll find all the ingredients at your nearest supermarket.
- Count your blessings – not nutrition-related I know, but it will go a long way to lifting your mood and ward off the Christmas blues J
Joyeux Noël everyone! X
